Cisco Approved Memory v.s. Third Party Memory:

Cisco Approved Memory & Third Party Memory are terms that are widely used but commonly misunderstood.?

What is Cisco approved memory?
A major misconception is that all memory is Cisco approved if manufactured by a Cisco approved OEM. ??Although this is close to being true, it fails to mention one very important factor.? ?In order to be Cisco approved, not only does the memory have to be manufactured by a Cisco approved OEM, but it must also be the exact part number qualified by Cisco for the specific platform it's being installed into.? For example, a CISCO2611 MEM2600-16FS requires a SMART: SM73248XV2CAVSO.

What is 3rd party memory?
All memory, other than Cisco approved memory, is considered to be 3rd party Cisco compatible memory.? This is a very broad category.? It includes major manufacturers, small OEM's, and non-approved part numbers manufactured by the Cisco Approved OEM.?

What is the difference?
The key difference between the two types of memory is: Cisco approved memory will not void one's SmartNet maintenance contract; Third party memory gives Cisco the right to void one's SmartNet contract.?

C.P.N's third party memory product line is built with the same specifications as Cisco approved memory, and will function in the same manner; however still renders the SmartNet contract voidable.?

Our Cisco memory specialist can assist you in making a determination on which product type best suites the needs of you and your company.

Summary:
One may ask, Is there a publicly available list of Cisco approved part numbers and manufacturers?? Unfortunately, the answer is no.? The only way to obtain such a list is to educate one's self and put in the work needed in order to document and categorize the memory specifications of each Cisco platform.? This is exactly what C.P.N has done over the past 7 years.?? So when it's time to purchase Cisco approved or third party memory, contact C.P.N, the company that truly understands the difference.
